Get Your Greens In: Strawberry Green Smoothie
You’ve probably heard about the benefits of leafy greens. But how do you get them in without eating salads all the time? Well, that is where green smoothies come in.
Green smoothies are smoothies made with leafy greens as one of the ingredients. That’s it. So, you could add leafy greens to any smoothie you make right now. The trick is making it taste good.
If you are new to green smoothies, then you’ll want to stick with spinach, red leaf lettuce, or green leaf lettuce since they are the easiest to hide the taste of.
Spinach is the leafy green in this recipe. It contains magnesium, potassium, folate, iron, vitamin K -among other nutrients- and is anti-inflammatory.
A nice surprise with this recipe? Although it may not be as vibrantly green in colour as many other green smoothie recipes, it is VERY tasty. I often use this recipe when giving a food demonstration on plant-based eating to demonstrate how easy making plant-based foods can be. People of all ages tend to like this smoothie, even kids!
Note: Organic fruits and vegetables will create the tastiest and most nutritious foods. If you can only choose one organic ingredient for this recipe let it be strawberries as these will affect the flavour the greatest and are one of the fruits most contaminated with chemicals when grown conventionally. You’ll also want to make sure you “chew” your smoothie for better digestion.
